I. Promoter of the contest

The promoter of the contest is Walltopia Ltd. The company is a leading manufacturer of artificial climbing walls led by its founder and manager, Ivaylo Penchev.

II. Purpose of the contest

The scope of the contest is the climbing walls design according to the enclosed project assignment.

III. Winner Selection

The contest is open to all persons and organizations, regardless of their location, and will be completed in 2 stages. In the first stage, a technical committee lead by Vasil Sharlanov, Walltopia Head of Design & Architecture Department, will review the submissions for compliance with the technical requirements. Then an international jury of experts will select the top 5 submissions in each category (boulder and top-rope/lead walls). The Promoter will then give feedback on the selected projects and a chance for further design development and there will be additional award for the team that submitts the best progress.

V. Minimum Participants; Registration

Please note that the Promoter reserves the right to cancel the contest if less than 30 project submissions have been received by the Promoter before the May 21st deadline.

If you wish to participate in the contest you must register by submitting an online registration form via the contest’s official website There are no registration fees. The registration form must be received by the Promoted by May, 21st 2015, 2 p.m., CET.

Please note that all registered participants may submit more than one design.

VI. Prizes

The prize pool is 60 000 EUR divided evenly in two categories – boulders and top-rope/lead walls. In each category there will be five selected projects, each of which will receive a prize of 5 000 EUR . In addition, these selected projects will be asked for further design development under Walltopia’s feedback and there will be an additional prize of 5 000 EUR for one team of each category that shows the largest progress.

VII. Submission Requirements

All project submissions must be in English and must contain at a minimum the following:

A dimensioned plan view, front view, sections of each module and visualizations in PDF format;
A 3D model in a SketchUp file; and
A text explaining the project in PDF format.

In addition to the mandatory drawings, each participant may provide additional materials (e.g. models, animations, presentation, etc.), which would help to better present the project submission.

All participants must submit their designs by uploading them online at not later than May 19, 2015, 2 p.m., CET.

VIII. Questions and answers

All registered participants may submit their questions to the Promoter by filling out the appropriate form at not later than May 15, 2015, 2 p.m., CET. The answer to all queries will be posted on the contest’s official website as soon as possible. All inquiries must be in English.

IX. Copyright

Each Submission must be the original and sole creation of, and the copyright in the submission, must be owned solely by the participant. By entering the competition, the participant agrees that:
(a) the materials (regardless of their format) submitted by the participant will become property of the Promoter and will not be returned, and
(b) the Promoter will have an irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, transferable, worldwide right to reproduce, publish (including on the Contest’s official website), and publicly display the all submissions, whether in whole or in part, in all print and electronic formats. Subject to the above, the author of the submission retains all copyright in the submission.

X. International Jury and Evaluation

The expert jury will consist of prominent climbers, gym owners, designers, architects and Walltopia’s staff, including Ivaylo Penchev and Vasil Sharlanov, who is currently the manager of Walltopia’s Design & Architecture Department.

The final list of the members of the jury will be posted on the contest’s official web site

All decisions of the jury and/or Walltopia Ltd are final and cannot not be appealled.

The primary criteria in selecting the top 5 submissions include, but are not limited to:

Aesthetic appeal;
Compliance with the project requirements;
Technological feasibility and cost implications;
